West Maui is a large, varied stretch of the island, and "best" here means the same thing it means anywhere else on Maui: local experience, production, full-market knowledge, and honesty about how a property actually performs. By those measures, the Hansen Ohana is a strong option for West Maui buyers and sellers. Broker Clint Hansen (RB-21616) leads a three-generation family brokerage — Maui Luxury Real Estate LLC (RB-21577) — that has sold real estate across Maui County since 1997. For the family's island-wide credentials, see our guide to the best real estate agent in Maui, and for a district-level look at one of West Maui's own resort communities, our Kaanapali area guide.
West Maui isn't one market — it's several, strung along the leeward coast from Kaanapali down through Lahaina town and out to Launiupoko, and up the coastal highway to Kapalua at the island's northwest tip. Kaanapali is the resort corridor: beachfront condo towers and hotels, Whalers Village shopping and dining, and a pair of well-known golf courses along a long stretch of sand. Kapalua, further north, is a quieter, more manicured luxury resort community built around its own golf courses and the calm curve of Kapalua Bay. Between the two, Napili, Kahana, and Honokowai form West Maui's condo belt — low-rise and mid-rise buildings, many oriented toward vacation-rental use, at a range of price points below the flagship resorts on either side. South of Lahaina town, Launiupoko and Olowalu offer a different feel: ag-zoned view lots and homes on the slopes above the coast, popular with buyers who want acreage within easy reach of town.
Because West Maui spans resort condos, condo-hotels, single-family homes, and ag-zoned parcels, the right agent needs to work across all of it rather than just one building or one corridor. A few things worth confirming before you choose someone to represent you: does the agent work the full MLS island-wide, or only a handful of listings they happen to have? Will they give you a straight answer on vacation-rental eligibility — zoning and permit history vary property by property in West Maui, and a good agent will tell you to verify it in writing rather than assume a unit can be rented short-term because a neighboring building can. Do they understand the difference between a condo-hotel unit (often tied to a rental-pool management program) and a fee-simple condo you control directly, since that distinction affects financing and resale? And, maybe most importantly: will they tell you when a deal doesn't pencil, instead of just pushing you toward a close?
The Hansen Ohana's office is at 161 Wailea Ike Place, A-106, in Wailea — on the opposite side of the island from Kaanapali and Kapalua. The family is direct about that: West Maui is not where the office sits. What the Hansens bring instead is a genuine island-wide practice built on the full MLS, so a West Maui buyer gets the same access to listings, comparables, and market history as a South Maui buyer would — that transparency about where the team is based, paired with how broadly they actually work, is part of the brand. Broker Clint Hansen, Maui-born with 26 years in the business, works with international buyers in English, conversational Spanish, and conversational Portuguese, and holds an FAA Part 107 drone certification useful for showcasing oceanfront and resort properties. Bob Hansen (RB-17532), Principal Broker with 40+ years and a former bank president, has been named Maui's #1 producing agent more times than any other agent, and he and Clint were the first father-son pair to make the Hawaii Business Top 100. Donna D. Hansen brings 50+ years in the business and received a 2022 U.S. Senate Certificate of Recognition for her service to the Children's Justice Center of Maui. Together the family has closed over $1 billion in sales and 1,000+ transactions across 100+ combined years. Clint is candid about setting expectations on vacation-rental income — "you don't buy here to make money, you buy for a lifestyle change" — the kind of honesty worth having from whoever represents you in West Maui. The team's site, MauiRealEstate.net, is the largest locally-owned real estate website on Maui, with roughly 35,000 unique monthly visitors. The August 2023 wildfires devastated Lahaina town, and the community's rebuilding is still ongoing. The Hansen Ohana supported relief efforts in the aftermath and continues to follow the rebuild closely, alongside the rest of West Maui's real estate community. For more on the family's community involvement, see our Hansen Ohana community page.
